Materials:

  • Red Heart Super Saver Yarn
  • 6.5mm crochet hook (you don’t need a tunisian crochet hook for this)
  • 5.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Beads
  • Button

Abbreviations and stitches:

TSS (Tunisian Simple Stitch) = insert hook under next vertical bar, yo and draw through keeping loop on hook.

RP = Return pass

SC = Single Crochet stitch

Use 6.5mm hook

Steps:

Row 1 – Foundation Row: ch 4, pick up loops in back loop of each ch, RP

Rows 2 – 48: TSS, then RP (48 rows made it about 12-1/2″ long.)

Bind off.

Adding the Beads:

Using the yarn needle, feed as many beads onto the yarn as you will need.  I used 20 beads, but loaded on about 28 just to be safe.  It’s better to have too many than too few.

Use 5.5mm hook.  With the wrong side facing you, join with a slipstitch in any of the corners, so you will be working down a long side.  *3 sc, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, slide a bead down to the stitch in progress, yarn over and pull the stitch through*.  The bead will be encased in the stitch on the back of the piece (which should be the right side). Repeat from * all the way down the length, skip working beads in the end, and just work around, then line the beads up on the other side as you work back up the other side.
